\nis environmentally conscious from the products she uses to materials used to build her studio.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For Lisa Liptak, being conscious about the
\nenvironment is not just her career. It is something
\nshe integrates into her daily life. When
\nshe opened Nurture Green Salon and Spa, she
\nthought about ways she could make her facility
\na better place for the earth.<\/p>\n

Nurture Green Salon and Spa, at 182 South
\nBroadway in Saratoga Springs, had its grand
\nopening ceremony in November. Liptak was
\ninterested in creating a salon and spa that promoted
\na green atmosphere.<\/p>\n

“Hair salons are very toxic places,” said Liptak.
\n“I want to show people that you can pamper yourself
\nand take care of the earth at the same time.”<\/p>\n

Liptak has been a hair stylist for 17 years. She
\ngot her degree from BOCES.<\/p>\n


\n“I worked at a salon in Greenwich, I worked
\nat the mall, I moved into booth rental, and then
\nfinally I decided to open up my own place,” she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

Liptak is environmentally conscious in her
\npersonal life and career. “I like to live a green
\nlifestyle. I’m a very mindful person. I think it
\nshould be important to everybody.”<\/p>\n

At the hair salon, Liptak and two other hair
\nstylists offer a variety of services, including cut
\nand coloring. Some of the hair care lines used
\ninclude Original Mineral, Surface, and Neuma.
\nFairytales is a line of products used for children.<\/p>\n

The products do not contain parabens, sulfates
\nor other chemicals that are normally found in
\nhair products.
\nNurture Salon and Spa also features massage,
\nfacials and waxing. The skin care line is called
\nSkinScript. The spa features a line of vegan, ecofriendly
\nmakeup called Emani.<\/p>\n

Liptak said she put a lot of thought into
\ncreating a facility that is fully environmentally
\nfriendly. The floors are made of bamboo and
\ncork, which are more sustainable materials than
\nmany other flooring options. The spa features a
\nclay wall, to help absorb toxins.<\/p>\n

Many of the furnishings in the salon such as
\nthe chandeliers and the desk have been upcycled,
\nwhich is creative re-use of unwanted materials.
\nThere are hand towels in the bathrooms instead
\nof paper towels, to use less paper, and glassware
\nfor water instead of paper cups. Many of the items
\ncame from Green Conscious, an eco-friendly
\nvendor located in Saratoga Springs, so the items
\nare local as well. The salon even recycles the foils
\nused during the hair coloring treatments.<\/p>\n

“People are blown away by our appearance,”
\nsaid Liptak. “We’re classy, but friendly. And we’re
\nall very talented.”<\/p>\n

For people who are not sure whether an ecofriendly
\nsalon is the right choice for them, Liptak
\nsaid, “what you put on your skin gets absorbed
\nin 26 seconds. The difference between eating
\nsomething that’s bad for you and putting it on
\nyour skin is that when you digest it, at least your
\ndigestive system can break it down. When you
\nput it on your skin, it goes directly into your
\nbloodstream.”<\/p>\n

Nurture Green Salon and Spa is open Monday
\nfrom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday
\nfrom 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m.
\nto 5 p.m. They are closed on Sunday. The salon
\naccepts walk-ins and takes appointments. To
