First-GIG LLC, a business that operates
\ntwo career placement services, is relocating
\nits headquarters from Madison, Wis., to
\nSaratoga Springs.<\/p>\n
First-GIG operates 1stGig.com, which
\nfocuses on jobs for college graduates, and
\nVetsBridge.com, which specializes in the
\nemployment of returning veterans of the U.S.
\nArmed Forces.<\/p>\n
After operating for more than three years
\nout of Madison, First-GIG is relocating to
\nSaratoga Springs, in part because of the thriving
\nIT industry in the Albany-Saratoga area,
\nofficials said. The company plans to continue
\nits active role in the national marketplace.<\/p>\n
First-GIG officials said the company has
\ndeveloped proprietary algorithms for both
\nprograms that make it easier for potential
\nemployees and employers to find each other.
\nThe service is available to students and veterans
\nat no charge.<\/p>\n
\n1stGig.com, unlike traditional job boards
\nand other self-help resources, is an employment
\nmatching service, company officials
\nsaid. The program connects early career
\nseekers, such as college students and recent
\ngraduates, with employers on the basis of
\nan established criteria, requirements, and
\neducational background, as well as personal
\nattributes, interests, and experiences. The
\ncompany said this approach creates accurate
\nmatches that result in long-standing
\nemployer-employee relationships.<\/p>\n
The program is being used by a number
\nof higher education institutions, including
\nthe Career Development Center at Skidmore
\nCollege.<\/p>\n
1stGig.com is making a special effort to
\nassist college graduates who have student
\nloans. The company has partnered with Great
\nLakes Higher Education Corporation (https:\/\/mygreatlakes.org\/) to
\ncontact over three million student loan holders
\nthroughout the United States, inviting them to participate
\nin the program as a means of launching careers
\nthat will enable them to repay their loans.<\/p>\n
VetsBridge.com, like 1stGig, uses an algorithm,
\nin this case one that matches military
\nexperience and skills with companies and
\nemployers from around the world that are
\ncommitted to hiring returning veterans,
\nofficials said. Military personnel can begin
\ntheir job search at any time, even before completing
\nmilitary service, by creating a profile
\nand managing their job search.<\/p>\n
The company said VetsBridge.com is also
\nworking to assist veterans who have encounters
\nwith the civilian criminal justice system.
\nThe program has partnered with the Veterans
\nDefense Project of the New York State
\nDefenders Association (www.nysda.org) in
\nAlbany, to help returning veterans who are
\nfacing criminal charges that may have resulted
\nfrom combat-related post-traumatic
\nstress disorder, traumatic brain injury, or
\nsubstance abuse.<\/p>\n
Both 1stGig.com and VetsBridge.com keep
\ntheir profiles live over an extended period of
\ntime, with the opportunity for participants
\nto update their files, the company said. This
\nsystem provides employers with a steady
\nstream of talent they can tap as needed.<\/p>\n
