Great Tang’s, a new restaurant in Saratoga
\nSprings, brings Asian cuisine to the Spa City.<\/p>\n

The establishment opened in October in the
\nPrice Chopper Plaza at 127 Ballston Avenue.
\nIt offers a variety of Chinese, Japanese, and
\nThai food.<\/p>\n

Owner Peter Chen grew up in China, and
\nmoved to New York City. It was there that he
\nbegan his career in the food industry. He has
\nbeen working in restaurants since 1998. He
\nhas owned restaurants in New York City and
\nPennsylvania, but wanted a change of pace.<\/p>\n

“I wanted to try something new,” said Chen.<\/p>\n


\n“I heard about Saratoga Springs and how it
\nwas supposed to be very nice. I heard about
\nthe track season. People told me it was a nice
\nplace to raise a family.”<\/p>\n

Chen has a wife who also works at Great
\nTang’s, and two young children.<\/p>\n

The menu at Great Tang’s offers an array
\nof Chinese, Japanese and Thai dishes. The
\nfood, including sushi, is freshly prepared at
\nthe restaurant.<\/p>\n

One of the things that sets the restaurant
\napart is the quality of the ingredients, said
\nChen.<\/p>\n

“A lot of other restaurants use dark meat
\nchicken. We only use white meat,” he said. He
\nalso said that he finds the highest quality cuts
\nof beef for his dishes.<\/p>\n

“The quality is very important,” he said.<\/p>\n

On the menu, one dish that is extremely
\npopular is the Dragon and Phoenix. This is a
\ncombination platter of both peppered shrimp
\nand General Tso’s chicken, served with rice. It’s
\nChen’s favorite.<\/p>\n

Chen believes his experience in the food
\nindustry helps his restaurant to be successful.<\/p>\n

“We have had at least 10 years getting everything
\ntogether. We go to different restaurants
\ntrying different products and finding which
\none is the best. So we will go to ‘restaurant A’
\nand we will think they have the best General
\nTso’s sauce, and that is where we get it from.
\nAnd then we go to ‘restaurant B’ and we think
\nthey have another sauce that we like, and we
\nget it from them. We go to restaurants finding
\nthe best and bring it together.”<\/p>\n

Great Tang’s may seem unassuming from
\nthe exterior, being located in the Price Chopper
\nPlaza. Chen admits that many people do
\nnot even realize there is a sit-down facility
\ninside the restaurant. However, the restaurant
\nis styled in urban, modern decoration.<\/p>\n

The walls are black, and neon lights around
\nthe room send blue and green shades in all
\ndirections, creating an inviting feel. There
\nare several seating options available. The restaurant
\nalso has a full-service bar, with many
\ndifferent name-brand liquors available.<\/p>\n

“We have had a lot of customers,” said Chen.
\n“It picks up more each day.”<\/p>\n

Great Tang’s is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday
\nthrough Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
\nFriday and Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m. on
