Michael Phinney of Phinney Design Group
\nand business partner Jonathan Haynes have
\nbrought the taste and feel of a neighborhood
\nbar they own, The Local in Saratoga Springs,
\nto the Saratoga Lake waterfront.<\/p>\n

The new establishment, Lake Local,
\nopened its doors at the end of July at the
\nsite of the former Tropic Hut. They reported
\na successful grand opening on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n

The owners did significant renovation to
\nboth the interior of the building and the external
\ngrounds. There are seashore-inspired
\nblond wood floors and bright white walls
\nwith pale washed out grey accent walls. The
\nsimple contemporary seating adds to the
\nclean lines of the space and facilitates the
\nalready easy banter and mingling that occurs
\namong friends and strangers alike.<\/p>\n

Stacey Gorman is a loyal fan of the Local,
\nbut had never been to the Tropic Hut. “I
\nused to think the other place looked a little
\nrun down,” she said. “But, this is a really a
\npleasant surprise and a welcome addition to
\nSaratoga Lake.”<\/p>\n

As at The Local on Beekman Street in
\nSaratoga Springs, the owners of Lake Local
\nhave remained true to their mission of creating
\na casual, inviting atmosphere that feels
\nlike “everybody’s living room.”<\/p>\n

Beachwear, paddle boarding, and kayaking
\nare part of the ambiance, along with the
\nbeachside-inspired menu offerings
\nThe Lake Local menu is the result of a
\ncollaboration between chefs Brady Dillon
\nand Tim James, who has been head chef
\nat The Local for the past eight years. On the menu are dishes like sesame pepper
\nencrusted ahi tuna, grilled swordfish with
\npineapple slaw, and what Phinney refers to
\nas their “signature dish,” a steamer bucket
\nloaded with shellfish, red potatoes, sausage
\nand corn on the cob.<\/p>\n

Breakfast will be served on Saturdays
\nand Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to noon and will
\ninclude specials like crab infused potato pancakes
\nwith two eggs over toast, and a variety
\nof frittatas. In addition to the standard menu
\nitems, the chefs will plan weekly specials for
\nSunday brunch, offered from noon to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

Right next door to Lake Local is the
\nBoard Shop where people can rent a kayak
\nor paddle board for three hours. They also
\noffer six- hour packages.<\/p>\n

Music is part of the allure of Lake Local,
\nwith live bands performing in the afternoons
\nand through dinner.<\/p>\n

Property manager Matt Rickard is excited
\nabout business since the opening.
\n“We’ve been averaging about 400 dinners
\na night – just during this first week of being
\nopen,” he said.<\/p>\n

He also notes the improvements made to
\nthe parking and lawn areas, making it much
\neasier to park. The lawn area offers another
\nspace for people to relax with food and drink.<\/p>\n

Phinney is envisioning lobster bakes in the
\nfuture. Now that phase one of the renovations
\nis complete, Phinney and Haynes are eyeing
\nphase two, which may include such things as
\noffering dinner year round.<\/p>\n

Lake Local is open Monday-Friday 11:30
\na.m. to midnight and 9:30 a.m. to midnight
