Saratoga Casino & Raceway opened its 74th harness racing season on March 1. Officials say it has experienced increases in all-source handle over each of the last five years\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Looking to continue the trend that officials
\nsay has seen increases in all-source
\nhandle over each of the last five years,
\nSaratoga Casino and Raceway opened its
\n74th harness racing season on March 1.<\/p>\n

Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s spring
\nschedule will consist of live racing Fridays
\nand Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and Sunday
\nmatinees starting at 12:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

New for 2015, the Thursday card has
\nbeen moved to a 4 p.m. twilight post, and
\nin March, will feature a “happy hour” with
\n$1 hot dogs and draft beers from 4-7 p.m.
\nParking and admission are always free.<\/p>\n

Racing officials said simulcast of the
\nSaratoga Harness signal continues to increase
\nin popularity, reaching an all-time
\nrecord handle of $35 million dollars in 2014.
\nOver 150 different venues throughout the
\nworld will carry the signal in 2015.<\/p>\n

“The product on the Saratoga Harness
\ntrack has never been better,” said John
\nMatarazzo, director of racing operations
\nat Saratoga Casino and Raceway. “With
\nthe rollout of our ‘One Card’ program and
\nintroduction of our Thursday happy hours,
\nwe’ve got something for casual and hard
\ncore fans alike. ”<\/p>\n

He said the horsemen will be competing
\nfor purses exceeding $16 million, with average
\npurses of $93,000 each night.<\/p>\n

This year, the historic harness racing
\nvenue’s exclusive wagering platform
\nSaratogaBets is set to unveil a new One
\nCard functionality system. The program
\nis designed to streamline the on-property
\npari-mutuel experience and allow visitors
\nto earn rewards both on and off property
\nthroughout 2015 and beyond, officials said.
\nComplimentary WiFi, mobile betting
\ntablets and a race replay kiosk are also
\nsome of the new benefits for horseplayers
\nwho visit Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s facilities.<\/p>\n

Fridays in March, all SaratogaBets
\nmembers are also encouraged to participate
\nin weekly Saratoga Harness handicapping
\ncontests for a chance to win a $750 wagering
\ncredit.<\/p>\n

For 2015, the seventh annual Joe Gerrity, Jr. Memorial Pace will consist of one dash
\nfor $275,000 on July 25. The 2014 Gerrity
\nMemorial featured Dancin’ Yankee, who
\nset the world record for an older pacer and
\nshattered the track record with an impressive
\n1:48.4 finish.<\/p>\n

Matarazzo said this year’s event will once
\nagain draw the best pacers in the Northeast.
\nThe popular New York Sire Stakes
\nprogram will return on Thursday, June 4,
\nand the annual Back to the Track event will
\nalso return this summer.<\/p>\n

Matarazzo said the 2015 racing season
\nwill continue to build on an increased social
\nmedia presence. Fans are encouraged
\nto follow @SaratogaCasino on Twitter and
\nInstagram as well as to use #SaratogaHarness
\nto share photos and videos of their
\nexperiences at the harness track. Pre- and
\npost-race coverage, behind the scenes looks
\ninto the paddock, and exclusive race insight
\nfrom track announcer Mike Sardella are
\njust some of the highlights planned.<\/p>\n
