On Black Friday, a troop of neighbors
\nand friends helped owner John Reardon
\nmove Compliments to the Chef, an upscale
\nkitchenware shop, to its new home at 46
\nMarion Ave., Saratoga Springs, in the
\nFresh Market plaza.<\/p>\n

The new location provides more space,
\non-site parking, and a congenial neighbor.
\n“Foodies shop at the Fresh Market and
\nwe have the toys for the foodies,” Reardon
\nsaid. For the soft opening, there was no
\nadvertising beforehand, not even a sign to
\nlet people know he was there. But, there
\nwas no turning back.<\/p>\n

Reardon is excited about the new space.
\n“There is room to linger,” he said, as the
\nstore is brighter, and the stock is more
\nspread out and easier to see. The availability
\nof parking is also a big plus.<\/p>\n

“Some things, like a complete set of
\nAll-Clad cookware, are not conducive to
\nwalking four blocks” to street parking,
\nhe noted.<\/p>\n

Reardon has been with the shop for 12
\nyears, 11 as the owner. It is a family business.
\nHis son, John, and daughter-in-law,
\nAudrey, are also involved and his wife,
\na business professor at the SUNY Delhi
\nsatellite campus at Schenectady County
\nCommunity College, helps out part time.
\nThere are six part-time employees but
\nReardon hopes it translates into some
\nfull-time positions.”<\/p>\n

Before taking on the shop, Reardon was
\nin the restaurant business most of his life.
\nHis accountant introduced him to the previous
\nowners, Andrea and Dave LeFrance,
\nand the rest is history.<\/p>\n

“This had all the things I love about
\ncooking but I don’t have to cook,” he said.
\nThe store sells a variety of items, both
\nAmerican-made and imported, including
\nAll-Clad pots and pans, made in the USA;
\nLeCreuset French ovenware; Emile Henri
\nclay bakeware, also from France; Wusthof
\nand Zwilling-J.A.Henkels German knives;
\nand Shun knives from Japan. In addition,
\nthey stock their own brand of spices and
\nsea salts, Sundae’s Best hot fudge sauce,
\nand wooden cutting boards made by local
\nartisan Adam Zielinski.<\/p>\n

Compliments to the Chef is open seven
\ndays a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Further
