{"id":28564,"date":"2014-09-11T17:54:11","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T21:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2014\/09\/saratoga-city-center-plans-multi-level-parking-garage.html"},"modified":"2014-09-11T17:54:11","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T21:54:11","slug":"saratoga-city-center-plans-multi-level-parking-garage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2014\/09\/saratoga-city-center-plans-multi-level-parking-garage\/","title":{"rendered":"Saratoga City Center Plans Multi-Level Parking Garage On City Parking Lot Site"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"new city parking garage c.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2014\/09\/new20city20parking20garage20c.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"214\" width=\"300\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">Saratoga City Center is negotiating a lease on a portion of the present municipal parking lot so it can build a parking structure that will look like this, adding some 500 new spaces\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>By Jill Nagy<\/p>\n<p>Some 500 spaces of new parking will soon<br \/>\nbe added to downtown Saratoga Springs with<br \/>\nconstruction of a multi-level parking structure<br \/>\neast of the Saratoga City Center.<\/p>\n<p>The City Center Authority is negotiating with<br \/>\nthe city for a 20-year lease on a portion of the<br \/>\npresent municipal parking lot and also negotiating<br \/>\ndetails of the building&#8217;s &#8220;developmental<br \/>\ncriteria,&#8221; according to Mark Baker, president<br \/>\nof the authority. &#8220;I am working closely with the city and with my board.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe financial arrangements with the city<br \/>\nwill mirror those for the convention itself,<br \/>\nwhich was built on land leased from the city,<br \/>\nBaker said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s taking a little longer than I anticipated,&#8221;<br \/>\nhe said, but he still expects construction to<br \/>\nbegin by the end of the year and to take about<br \/>\neight months to complete.<\/p>\n<p>Envision Architects is designing the structure.<br \/>\nBaker said that it will have a brick facade<br \/>\nand &#8220;we will try to have it fit into the<br \/>\nstreetscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He expects the parking structure to look<br \/>\nmore like an office building than a parking<br \/>\ngarage. The parking structure will be separate<br \/>\nfrom the City Center building, but connected to<br \/>\nit by an enclosed walkway. The plan is to have<br \/>\nthe parking facility monitored around the clock<br \/>\nby closed circuit television with additional<br \/>\nsecurity provided by parking attendants.<\/p>\n<p>Baker estimates the cost of the addition at<br \/>\n$9-10 million. Parking will probably be free for<br \/>\nthe first hour or two and, after that, in the range<br \/>\nof $10 or $11 a day or overnight.<br \/>\n&#8220;Just enough to cover the debt load,&#8221; Baker<br \/>\nsaid. He said that he hopes that, in time, the<br \/>\nparking structure will be able to pay for itself.<br \/>\nMonthly leases are a possibility, but Baker said<br \/>\nthat has not yet been decided.<\/p>\n<p>Recent renovations and additions to the City<br \/>\nCenter have increased the demand for parking<br \/>\nin downtown Saratoga Springs.
