Saratoga Springs plastic surgeon Dr.
\nJeffrey Ridha calls his purchase of the
\nSanctuary Spa a “win-win” for both his
\npatients and the spa’s customers.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ridha, who practices at 83 Railroad
\nPlace, closed on the purchase of the
\nSanctuary Spa–which is just across the
\nstreet at 72 Railroad Place–in late June.
\nThe former owner, registered nurse Debra
\nDocyk, has retired.<\/p>\n

“I had interacted with the former owner
\nas a client at the spa, and I always thought
\nit was a very nice place with a great reputation,”
\nRidha said. “When I found out the
\nspa was for sale I thought it would be an
\nexcellent addition to our practice.”<\/p>\n

The medical spa has operated for eight
\nyears, and is one of the most popular in the
\narea. It specializes in laser skin rejuvenation,
\ntherapeutic massages and facials.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jeffery Ridha MD PC offers plastic
\nand reconstructive surgery, along with
\ninjectable fillers such as Botox and Juvederm.
\nThe doctor said the merger will
\nallow it to offer a more diverse range of
\nservices, and attract a broader patient
\nbase, as one of the largest combined
\nmedical practices and spas in the region.<\/p>\n

“I think that medical spa services go
\nhand-in-hand with plastic surgery and
\ncosmetic dermatology practices, but I
\nthink offering the full range of spa services
\nis something that is not quite as
\ncommon,” he said. “But to me is a very
\nnatural fit because everything to do with
\nwellness and feeling good, feeling relaxed,
\nfeeling fresh, feeling rejuvenated,
\nis really what we want to provide for our
\npatients.”<\/p>\n

He said the purchase will also allow
\nthe Sanctuary Spa–which will keep its
\nname–to offer clinical-level treatments
\nto its clientele. He is evaluating the services
\noffered and may add some and drop
\nother, less popular, ones.
\nHe is also looking at personnel.<\/p>\n

“We are certainly going to make sure we
\nhave the best staff that is available,” he
\nsaid. “I am going through the process now
\nof evaluating the current staff and determining
\nwhat their skill sets are. If [the
\nspa] is something I am going to have our
\nname on, it has to have the highest level
\nof quality, with therapists that have excellent
\nclient care and customer service as
\nwell as experience and knowledge.”
\nRidha also will give the spa itself a facelift.
\n“We plan to really update things and
\ncreate a modern, clean, beautiful space,”
\nhe said.<\/p>\n

Former owner Docyk said she believes
\nRidha will do well with the spa.
\n“With the aging of the baby boomers
\nand the exponential growth of Saratoga
\nCounty, the demand for our services has
\nbeen overwhelming,” she said.<\/p>\n

According to a 2013 report by research
\nfirm Marketdata, there are 2,100 medical
\nspas in the United States, with combined
\nrevenue of $1.94 billion in 2012. This
\naverages out to $924,000 per facility.
\nThe firm forecast market growth of 18
\npercent a year.<\/p>\n

Ridha grew up in Ohio, where he attended
\nmedical school. He completed
\nhis surgical training in the New York City
\narea. He moved to the area in 2008, opening
\nan office in Glens Falls. He moved the
\npractice to Saratoga Springs about two
\nyears ago. While cosmetic surgery, such
\nas breast augmentation and rhinoplasty,
\nis the largest part of this practice, he also
\ndoes reconstructive surgery for victims of
\nburns, cancer, and so on.<\/p>\n
