Malta Med Emergent Care, a joint venture
\nof Albany Medical Center and Saratoga
\nHospital, is now open just west of Northway
\nExit 12, hailed by officials as the only center
\nin the Capital Region to provide both
\n24\/7 urgent care and treatment for more
\nserious injuries by emergency medicine
\nphysicians from the region’s trauma center,
\nAlbany Med.<\/p>\n

The $17.5 million facility provides area
\nresidents an alternative to hospital emergency
\nrooms for all but the most serious
\nmedical circumstances, officials said.
\nIt is located at 6 Medical Park Drive,
\njust west of Northway Exit 12, across from
\nthe Hyatt.<\/p>\n

Malta Med Emergent Care provides real time
\nspecialty consultation with specialists
\nat Albany Med and Saratoga Hospital;
\ndiagnostic imaging, including MRI, CT,
\nX-ray and ultrasound; and a helipad and
\nambulance bays for fast transit for those
\nrequiring hospital-based care. <\/p>\n

“By working in partnership, our two hospitals are able to make the highest quality medical services in the region more accessible to more of our residents,” said Albany Medical Center President and CEO James J. Barba. “The unique center we have created is an important addition that will help continue to make southern Saratoga County attractive to both businesses and families.”<\/p>\n

The joint venture meets the needs of one of the fastest growing areas in the Capital Region, officials said, while providing a cost-effective alternative to emergency room care. Malta Med Emergent Care is minutes away from Luther Forest Technology Campus and GlobalFoundries.<\/p>\n

“Malta Med represents a smarter, better way of meeting our community’s health care needs,” said Saratoga Hospital President and CEO Angelo Calbone. “This new facility draws on the strengths of two complementary organizations to provide convenient, around-the-clock access to a level of care previously unavailable in the Saratoga region.”<\/p>\n

Malta Med Emergent Care occupies the first floor of a two-story, 60,000-square-foot building. The second floor will house medical offices for primary care and specialty physicians to help patients access follow-up care when needed.<\/p>\n

officials said some physicians began moving into those offices in June. Emergency physicians from Albany Med joined Saratoga Hospital’s urgent care team at Malta Medical Arts in July 2011.<\/p>\n

Services previously provided at that Route 9 facility have been expanded and relocated to the new, larger Malta Med Emergent Care.<\/p>\n

Ground was broken for the facility on November 16, 2012, and it opened June 3. It staffs 71 full-time equivalent positions, according to hospital officials.<\/p>\n

Columbia Development Companies was the project developer and general contractor was BBL Medical Facilities. HCP Architects designed the facility.<\/p>\n

Also involved were Excel Group Engineering; Stroud, Pence & The LA Group was the civil engineer. Interior designer was Design Network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
