Efithia \u201cEffie\u201d Vasilakos recently opened Effie\u2019s Boutique in Halfmoon. It sells formal gowns, dresses, shoes, purses, coats, that and accessories.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The opening of Effie\u2019s Boutique in Halfmoon was a dream come true for Montreal native Efithia \u201cEffie\u201d Vasilakos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 32-year-old has loved fashion for as long as she can remember. As a child, she would walk into her mother\u2019s walk-in closet to admire her stylish clothes. As she got older, she developed a passion for helping people put outfits together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoyed getting people to try things on that they wouldn\u2019t normally wear,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Montreal, she owned a bookkeeping company and also worked in real estate. Her love of fashion continued. She kept up with trends by reading fashion magazines and visiting boutiques.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She later married Halfmoon resident Jimmy Vasilakos. The couple settled in Halfmoon, where Jimmy and his brother, Teddy, operate the Halfmoon Diner. The diner was started 30 years ago by their father, Peter.\u00a0 <\/span>It was her father-in-law who suggested that Effie\u2019s Boutique be built on a parcel of land across from the diner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She decided to take his advice.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father-in-law is an incredible role model. I look up to him,\u201d she said. \u201cHe worked very hard, and he is living the American dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vasilakos designed the building herself with help from architects at Monarch Designs. The building was constructed in less than a year by Peachtree Builders.<\/p>\n

Effie\u2019s Boutique is located at 1 Birchwood Drive in Halfmoon near the corner of Route 9 and Grooms Road.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very visual, and I did a lot of research\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted a lot of white and I wanted it to be modern and welcoming. It came out exactly as I envisioned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her vision included the store\u2019s round gown room, where customers can try on gowns and prom dresses. They range in price from $129 to $999.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are going to get unique gowns,\u201d she said. \u201cAt most, I have only two of the same gowns. And I have inclusive sizing. From size 0 to 24W. Our casual wear also has an inclusive section up to 4X. A lot of boutiques don\u2019t have that, and I\u2019ve had many requests for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Effie\u2019s Boutique carries 27 different brands, and new shipments arrive each week. Styles are not reordered after they are sold.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want everyone to have the same thing,\u201d said Vasilakos.<\/p>\n

In addition to gowns and casual wear, the boutique sells cocktail dresses, shoes, purses, coats, hat and accessories. Vasilakos keeps up with the latest styles and regularly travels to shows and showrooms in New York City. She hand-picks every item in the store.<\/p>\n

Vasilakos and her four employees are happy to help shoppers find the perfect outfit for any occasion. She also offers personal styling consultations by appointment at no charge<\/p>\n

\u201cI tell people, \u2018You have to love it at the store or you will never wear it,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI want people to wear it with a smile. I don\u2019t want it to just hang in their closet.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJust come in and walk around,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t want it to be intimidating. I want women to have fun shopping.\u201d<\/p>\n
