The 2019 Saratoga Springs Rotary Education Foundation \u201cTeams for Dreams\u201d three-on-three basketball tournament will be held at Saratoga Springs High School on Saturday, Oct. 12.
\nThe event will feature mens, womens or co-ed teams of three or four players competing in various age groups at youth and adult levels.
\nThe tournament will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $120 per team, with a maximum of four players.
\nFor more information and to register a team, visit www.SaratogaSpringsScholarships.org. Registration closes Oct. 10.
\nThe Saratoga Springs Rotary Education Foundation has partnered with Saratoga Financial Services to sponsor the event. All proceeds will fund local scholarships to help students achieve their dreams.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Saratoga Hospital Golf Invitational raised $157,514 for the hospital\u2019s nursing scholarship program.
\nMore than 300 golfers and guests turned out for the annual event, which was held at Saratoga National Golf Club in September. Presenting sponsor was A.O.W. Associates Inc. of Albany.
\nSince the scholarship program was launched in 2002, 127 recipients have earned their associate\u2019s, bachelor\u2019s or master\u2019s degree in nursing. Another 36 are working toward their degree.
\nNursing education plays a key role in maintaining Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center\u2014the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.
\nSaratoga Hospital has been a Magnet facility since 2004, when the hospital became the first in the Capital Region to attain this designation. Only 28 of New York\u2019s 222 hospitals have earned Magnet recognition, including two in the Capital Region. Nationwide, there are 488 Magnet hospitals.
\nIn addition to A.O.W. Associates, major event sponsors include WNYT News Channel 13, Pepsi Beverages Co., Saratoga National Golf Club and Camelot Print & Copy Center.<\/p>\n

Lake Avenue Elementary School has been named a National PTA School of Excellence for their accomplishments in building a strong, effective family-school partnership that is enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.
\nLake Avenue Elementary School and Lake Avenue PTA are one of only 326 PTAs and schools nationwide to be designated a 2019-2021 School of Excellence.
\nLake Avenue Elementary School joins an elite group of schools recognized by the National PTA for its partnership with families through PTA to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. To celebrate their achievements, National PTA presented the school and PTA with a certificate and a National PTA School of Excellence banner to hang in their school.<\/p>\n

The Saratoga County Chamber\u2019s Veterans Business Council is hosting a breakfast featuring Author Claire Gibson on Thursday, October 31 at the Saratoga National Golf Club.
\nClaire will present the research process behind her novel \u201cBeyond the Point\u201d and share several stories from the women veterans she interviewed along the way. She will talk about the importance of veteran voices, telling stories in a way that honors not just service and sacrifice but also individual personalities, and her quest to bridge the divide between veterans and civilians.
\nThe event kicks off with 7:30 a.m. registration with program beginning at 8 a.m. Cost to attend is $20 and will include a full breakfast.
\nThe Veterans Business Council operates under the Saratoga County Chamber Foundation, and is made up of a select group of Veterans who are business leaders in the region. More information on the VBC is available at www.SaratogaVeterans.org.<\/p>\n

Saratoga County announced that they have received a special accreditation from the State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. The Saratoga County Office of Emergency Service (OES) achieved statewide accreditation through the Local Emergency Management Accreditation Program.
\nSaratoga County joins New York City, Oneida, Livingston, Broome, Montgomery, Albany and Madison counties as the only jurisdictions obtaining accreditation at this time.
\nThe accreditation comes after the DHSES and the State Emergency Management Association (NYSEMA) reviewed key factors related to the county\u2019s preparedness including administration, training, citizen preparedness, use of the incident command system, emergency communications, mitigation, damage assessment, debris management and incident recovery. The county\u2019s Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation plan was also included.
\nThe purpose of the program is to ensure county emergency management offices in each of the state\u2019s 62 counties are following certain operational standards. Accreditation is valid for five-years.<\/p>\n

The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Saratoga County (SPCSC) has received grant funding from the Office of Mental Health, Suicide Prevention Center New York (SPC-NY) to further enhance its awareness and education campaign that promotes suicide prevention resources.
\nWith this grant, which totals $12,570 over three years, the coalition will bring the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline\u2019s #BeThe1To campaign to the Capital Region and spread awareness using social media, cable TV, and movie theatres to display a video PSA.
\nAdditionally, the coalition is continuing the successful coffee cup sleeve effort that began in 2018. For last year\u2019s campaign the coalition distributed coffee sleeves displaying SPCSC information, the Suicide National Lifeline number, and the message \u201cYou Matter to Me.\u201d
\nTwo thousand coffee sleeves were distributed to eight different local coffee shops throughout Saratoga County and several partner agencies. Information will also be on display at local diners and bus shelters starting in spring 2020.<\/p>\n

Over 500 people attended the Feast of the Fields event in September, Saratoga PLAN\u2019s 14th annual fundraiser that raised approximately $120,000 to support continued conservation projects throughout Saratoga County.
\nParticipants ate food prepared by 12 chefs and sampled drinks from a dozen drink vendors.
\nPLAN hopes to use the funds to complete numerous conservation projects, including 1,200 acres of new conservation, adding to the over 7,000 acres conserved to date.
