Saratoga Hospital and Hudson Headwaters Health Network are expanding their working relationship to include collaboration on a new urgent care center, located within the hospital’s proposed medical office building that will be constructed at Exit 18 of the Adirondack Northway.

The project is on the site of the former Carl R’s Restaurant, located at 124 Main St. in Queensbury. The hospital purchased the property in 2017.

The new building has been approved by the Queensbury planning board. The timeline for breaking ground and moving into the new facility is being finalized, projected to be ready mid to late 2020.

The new building will include urgent care, lab services and medical imaging, in addition to office and clinical space for Saratoga Hospital Medical Group specialists.

“When we purchased the property, we were still assessing how the property could best be used to enhance patient care in the community. We knew demand for access to our specialists was growing north of Saratoga, so expanding services to meet that patient need was our first thought,” said Angelo Calbone, president and CEO of Saratoga Hospital. “Having worked with HHHN on other initiatives, it was natural to engage its team to explore other services that would be a good fit for this location.”

Saratoga Hospital first collaborated with Hudson Headwaters to bring endocrinology services to the Glens Falls region in early 2018, and recently announced plans with Hudson Headwaters to bring additional pulmonology services to the community.

Hudson Headwaters currently operates two urgent care sites, one in Warrensburg and the other on Broad Street in Glens Falls. The Broad Street site, about a mile from the new building, has been open since 2001.

According to Hudson Headwaters, the Broad Street facility requires significant renovations. Rather than a major investment to replace the old building, the opportunity to move into a newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility with convenient parking was simply a better decision.

“It just makes sense,” said Calbone. “It’s a smarter use of community resources.”

“We have worked to create partnerships and collaborative agreements with health care organizations throughout the upstate New York region with a goal to provide the best care and access to that care for everyone in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Tucker Slingerland, CEO of Hudson Headwaters Health Network. “Working with Saratoga Hospital to construct a new urgent care center is a perfect example of how these collaborations benefit our local communities.”

In this partnership, Hudson Headwaters will operate the urgent care center and Saratoga Hospital will provide the lab services and medical imaging to support both the urgent care center and the hospital’s specialty physician offices. The specialty practices that will be located in the new medical office building are still being assessed.

“We are still analyzing patient needs and how we can complement specialty services currently available in the community,” said Calbone.

The Hudson Headwaters Broad Street urgent care will remain open until the new facility is ready.

Hudson Headwaters also provides primary care services at the Broad Street location. Primary care will continue to be available at this location after urgent care moves, with Hudson Headwaters anticipating expanding those services.
