\nNicole Wilson has two messages for shoppers at her new Burnt Hills boutique: She helps make people\u2019s lives simple and it is safe to shop there.
\n\u201cAfter all, I do own a cleaning company,\u201d said Wilson, who started Life Maid Spotless and Simple about 15 years ago. \u201cCleaning prevents COVID.\u201d
\nThe retail shop\u2014 called Life Made Simple Boutique\u2014recently opened in Suite 5 at 772 Saratoga Road, the Dollar Tree Plaza. It had been a dream of Wilson\u2019s for many years, partly because she has \u201ca fire and a passion for shopping,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cI live on a farm and sell eggs and crafts,\u201d said Wilson. But opportunity knocked for a boutique with home d\u00e9cor and gifts as she planned moving her cleaning business to Route 50.
\n\u201cFor the last five years I ran Spotless out of my home and with the pandemic, I thought we would be safer,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I needed more room for the washer and dryer and to store supplies.\u201d
\nAt any time Wilson employs 12 to 18 cleaning staff. She wasn\u2019t expecting to start a second business during a pandemic, but the space presented itself first and the boutique followed.
\n\u201cI had thought the plaza location was probably too expensive but made a gamble and called,\u201d she said. \u201cI was shocked to find that the cost of the space was comparable to an office and the additional area for retail was a bonus.\u201d
\nOn Nov. 1, she relocated Spotless and began setting up the boutique in her \u201crustic and industrial yet homey farmhouse style,\u201d she said.
\nWilson sells women\u2019s clothing, personal care products and hand-crafted items for the home. The shop features a self-healing station.
\n\u201cI want people to be healthy and to give them help dealing with the stresses of today,\u201d she said.
\nWilson is bringing other local women-owned businesses, such as soap makers and artisans, \u201cto give back to the small business community,\u201d she said.
\nWilson is pursuing certification through the SBA\u2019s Women Owned Small Business Program for her cleaning company.
\n\u201cShopping for items for the boutique has been difficult, but I have found some wholesale sites where you don\u2019t have to pay for 60 to 90 days,\u201d she said. \u201cShipping and getting things on time has been tough also, but I have had a very positive experience in the community overall.\u201d
\n\u201cPeople are helping small businesses more than ever now,\u201d she said. \u201cIt took a pandemic to open people\u2019s eyes to the need to support each other.\u201d
\nLife Made Simple Boutique is open Wednesday through Saturday starting at 10 a.m. and by appointment on Sundays \u201cfor people who may be nervous about going out during the pandemic,\u201d she said. \u201cCOVID may be a problem for a while but it\u2019s a safe environment here,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are small, but we have a little of everything.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
