The group also has stores in Albany and Slingerlands.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By Andrea Harwood<\/p>\n<p>The owners of Robinson Ace Hardware have expanded by acquiring a third store, Crescent Ace Hardware, located at 135 Lapp Road in Clifton Park.<\/p>\n<p>The two other stores are located at 1874 West Ave in Albany and 1900 New Scotland Road in Slingerlands.<\/p>\n<p>The purchase came about as the partners were looking for opportunities to expand.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe did a whole-store renovation inside, doing a complete reset with design, fixtures and products,\u201d said McDonnell.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He said the partners wanted a store with up-to-date inventory, with a layout design that flowed well. The reset took around three months. McDonnell said all has been running smoothly<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>and the store anticipates having a strong finish to the year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The partners teamed up with Ace Hardware directly for design and renovations, with many local subcontractors being used. Inventory was updated based on demographic research.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\"><b><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"s2\"><!--more--><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a passion for hardware. We understand the game. We\u2019re all at a good place in life where we can give it our all,\u201d said McDonnell.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Partner Swartz was a long-time employee of the Albany store, acting as store manager before buying into the partnership. Robinson originated the Robinson Ace Hardware business in 1958. He is the third generation to own the business.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA big part of our business is giving back,\u201d said McDonnell. \u201cThe majority of our employees live where they work. We\u2019re excited to be part of the community. Shopping local gives back to your town, whether it\u2019s at our store or somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McDonnell said each store is different, and each town has its own personality. In Clifton Park, the store\u2019s new ownership and redesign was met with positive reaction. The partners have hosted several fundraising events in addition to a big grand opening event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClifton Park has been good to us,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great place to do business. Saratoga County is flourishing. It made sense for us to jump in and we are happy to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
