….Personally, I didn’t think the weather report of Friday, April 1 was particularly funny to begin with. And certainly I wasn’t laughing when the build-up ended up being for naught. However, here we are on what I’m sure most of us would consider to be an exceptional day in early April, after an exceptionally hellish winter…..off we go to Yaddo!
What has sprung up in the gardens of Yaddo: Nothing….yet. The gardens usually “come to life” in late May. However, this extraordinarily beautiful compound, located at 312 Union Ave., right past the track on a 400 acre wooded estate, provides a great leisurely walk-about even now.
Yaddo is an artists’ working community, and private areas are marked as such. However, the Yaddo Garden Association includes volunteers who restore and preserve this gem of a public garden, where one can enjoy rose and rock gardens, sweeping grassy expanses, wooded paths, and fountains. Follow signs for the public gardens, open seven days from 8:00 am till dusk.
A great morning, to be sure. Just wear your wellies or your rendition of them, bring your animal friend if you have one (leashed, of course we must pick up after them), and believe me you will leave feeling uplifted and refreshed…..a sure cabin-fever cure and a great way to reintroduce yourself to the outdoor beauty of Saratoga!
I’m off to find a new pair of wellies, and saw just the ones on Broadway, where they are to be found aplenty in many shop windows eg. Speck Boutique (a justified purchase as they may also find much use on a rainy day at the track…..) Will you make time for a visit to Yaddo this weekend?
Hello, you are absolutely right with this article. However, I see not only the purely physical health is crucial for a healthy life but also the mental health. This is unfortunately far too often neglected.
Excellent job over again. Thanks a lot)
