If you’re one of those people who hates to see things go to waste… to the extent that you round up the remaining shampoo and conditioner bottles after your stay at a hotel, stuffing them into your suitcase to finish off at home… you no longer need to worry.
Two local Saratoga hotels are teaming up with Clean the World to ensure left over hotel shampoo and other products are put to good use!
The Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn by Marriott in Saratoga Springs have partnered up with Clean the World, a not-for-profit corporation that collects bath products discarded by hotels and redistributes them to people in local homeless shelters and needy people around the world to help prevent hygiene-related illnesses.
According to a recent press release:
“Since launching its effort in 2009, Clean the World has eliminated more than 340 tons of waste: That’s 5 million bars of soap and 35.5 million tons of shampoo and conditioner now reused for human benefit.”
And with nearly 250 combined guest rooms, these two Saratoga hotels are expected to add over 2,000 pounds of soap and 1,585 pounds of bottled hygienic products to these statistics yearly.
Wondering how it works? The way I understand it, Clean the World has supplied the housekeeping staff at Saratoga’s Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn hotels with a special bin to collect leftover shampoos, conditioners and soaps from guest rooms. The bins are then collected weekly and the products are rebottled or recycled into 2-ounce bars of soap for distribution to local people in need and impoverished nations.
While many Saratoga tourists will be flocking to the Saratoga Race Course on Giveaway Days at the track for some free Saratoga souvenirs, the needy across the world will also get their own token of Saratoga thanks to this new partnership.
Kudos to Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn for teaming up to prevent waste and help ‘Clean The World!’ I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before more local hotels follow suit.
Do you usually take home your hotel bath products after your stay, or leave them behind?
