Everybody knows Saratoga is “Destination Vacation”, even bigshots like the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra. As the ballerina’s bow out, turn your ears to the grand and diverse program of the 100-piece orchestra.
Beginning on Wednesday, July 27 at 8pm and continuing for three weeks afterwards, the Philadelphia Orchestra will perform a summer program at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC).
On opening night, guest conductor Marin Alsop will lead the instruments. She is the first woman to lead a major American orchestra and is currently the conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Also featured on the first night is violin virtuoso Sarah Chang, who is regarded as one of the world’s greatest violinists.
In fact, the opening week includes several star appearances, such as David Hyde Piece, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman (the latter in a screening of the immortal classic “Casablanca”).
And the remainder of the program is no less rife with exciting events and appearances. These include 8 globally acclaimed guest conductors, soloists, a Broadway to Hollywood pops concert, pre-shows, Date Nights, and more!
Whether you are a seasoned listener or have never found yourself before an orchestra before, The Philadelphia Orchestra’s program at SPAC is a place where you will find yourself quite at home.
