I Won a Buy-in to a Charity Poker Tournament this Weekend
Yesterday while surfing the web, I came across All In for Wishes – a charity poker tournament. It’s been years since I’ve bellied up to a card table, so I looked a little closer.
A $200 buy-in, with re-buys and add-ons available (which I’m not crazy about). However, this is an event to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation of Northeast New York, so I’ll let it slide. The real catch for me is the prize pool.
The prize pool includes a seat at the World Series of Poker 2012 Main Event! With 500 participants in the tournament, those chances aren’t too bad!
I used to play quite a bit of Texas Hold ‘Em back in college, we would get together in one of the lounges a couple nights a week and play cash games until 2 or 3am. What a rush this game is, one hand can either make your day or completely ruin it, and that’s what I like most about poker, anything can happen.
It has been so long since I leaned on that felt, shuffled chips, and took down a pot. So when I came across this poker tournament, I could already hear the chips falling.
Even better, I saw that All-in For Wishes has a facebook page, and they are running this cool contest. Every day leading up to the tournament, they are randomly choosing one of their fans and awarding them with a free buy-in! So of course I ‘liked’ their page, hoping to be the lucky winner of one of those seats.. and I was!
This morning I checked my facebook news feed and sure enough, they had chosen me! I can’t wait to sit at a table again. With such a great prize for the winner, I hope I have enough patience left to sit and grind it out all afternoon! I wonder if they do the same for some of their random twitter followers?
Wish me luck! Is anyone else eager to play this weekend?
I would like to thank the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York for choosing me, and much more importantly, for granting countless wishes to kids with life-threatening medical conditions. You all truly do great work.
