Next to Saratoga’s famous Dough Boy and Dough Girl, a distant relative comes to join the family – the Dough Cousin.
The Dough Boy, a tasty Saratoga favorite from Esperanto’s since 1994, is a satisfying roll of freshly baked dough wrapped around spiced chicken, three kinds of cheese, and scallions.
Eleven years after the Dough Boy’s successful debut, a sister was born: a vegetarian option made with olives, carrots, celery, onions, and mushrooms called the Dough Girl.
And just a few days ago, like a distant relative at a family reunion, a new cousin arrived on August 24.
The Dough Cousin is a kind of Italian-themed vegetarian-without-you-noticing meal. It’s the same familiar fresh dough, stuffed with spinach, onion, red pepper, feta cheese and mozzarella.
Joshua Rebb, the manager of Esperanto, said the cousin came after some experimentation with different Doughs. With the Dough Boy’s fame and sales success, it only made sense to see if there were more members of the Dough Dynasty.
And there may be more cousins coming – if this newcomer is as popular as his older relatives, Rebb may mix up the ingredients and introduce new cousins every month or so.
Each family member will be treated equally – all cost $3.50, and can be ordered or taken out by calling 518-587-4236.
Have you tried the new Dough Cousin yet? Which Dough family member is your favorite so far? What kinds of new “cousins” would you like to see at Esperanto’s? Let us know!
