“Lillian’s Lot” Will Soon be a Construction Site for a New Property
Plans for a new building in Lillian’s parking lot are close to being approved, and details from the plans sound like the new building will be an aesthetic and economic addition to Saratoga Springs.
A mixed-use four-story building is planned to be built In the space which is currently used as a parking lot for Lillian’s.
The bottom floor, projected to be about 13,500 square feet, will be retail space that can be occupied by numerous shops. The upper floors will be available for office space and 16 apartments. An underground garage will be included as parking for tenants.
As the structure is built, it will include twelve-foot alleys on either side. This will provide extra entrance space for more businesses to be located on the sides of the building.
The wide alleys will be well lit, and even heated in the winter to cut back on snow (I predict this will be a popular feature that will definitely help any business that resides there). The alley will have a public stairway leading to Putnam Street.
The upper floors will be available for office space and 16 apartments. An underground garage will be included as parking for tenants.
In the front of the building, there will be bike racks, plants, a decorative sidewalk and light posts. The Desert Storm memorial which is currently near the entrance of the parking lot will be shifted but remain in the area.
Construction on the new addition could begin as early as spring 2012, and should take between 12-18 months to complete.
Saratoga Springs Planning Board has approved the plans, and is waiting on the OK from the Design Approval Commission.

All these new businesses are wonderful for the city, but no one is going to go downtown if there’s no place to park. 🙁
