Courtyard By Marriott Offers A Helping Hand And Allows Flood Victim To Enjoy Concert At SPAC

As many of you know, we give stuff away all the time at Saratoga.com. Everything from dinner gift certificates, tickets to sporting events and concerts, to Halloween hayrides and mountain bikes.

What you may not know, is that the winner of our Journey tickets giveaway a few weeks ago was a victim of the terrible flooding that struck the region following Tropical Storm Irene. Our winner lost her house to the storm damage and didn’t have anywhere to stay while the clean up process started. Needless to say, she wasn’t going to make it to SPAC to see the rock legends on Labor Day weekend.

We felt bad that she
would miss the Journey concert on top of dealing with storm damages, so we did
some asking around to see if there was anything we could do. When we contacted the
Courtyard by Marriott – Saratoga Springs, it was like a
breath of fresh air. Courtyard came to the rescue! They were able to offer a
free suite for our winner (and her family) for the night of the concert.

Courtyard’s
generosity meant that our winner and her family did not have to miss the Journey
concert after all. They were able to enjoy
a great show at SPAC AND stay the night in one of the Courtyard by Marriot’s
lavish suites! This was a nice getaway for them in the middle
of their time of crisis — and they didn’t have to pay a dime!

I spoke with the Regional Director of Sales, Leslie Miller, who was the heart behind the decision. When asked, “Have you ever done anything like this in the past?” she replied:

“Actually, we do it all the time. Usually we donate complimentary rooms for silent auctions at fundraisers. As a member of the community, Courtyard always want to, and enjoys helping where we can. The two Marriotts in Saratoga, Residence and Courtyard, have donated over $20,000 worth of complimentary rooms to raise money for local non-profits in 2011.”

Wow, this is awesome. A hotel that has no problem booking rooms in Saratoga, giving their rooms away to help the community and people in need. This is not the only goodwill effort being made by Marriott either – as seen in a previous post.

BBL Hospitality, parent company of Marriott, just purchased the Ramada Inn on Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston. The hotel company plans to upgrade the property over the next 12 to 18 months with renovations to the guestrooms, lobby and public areas, as well as the addition of a full-service, sports-themed, family restaurant. Hey, maybe this means that Marriott will help out the community of Charleston like they help us in Saratoga Springs.
