Remember back in November when the bowl was finally dug out at Saratoga Springs skatepark? That skatepark will be the benefactor of a great fundraiser going on throughout the month of March at Spring Street Gallery.
On Deck: Skateboard Art Show kicks off this weekend (March 3) and will run throughout the entire month. The show will feature over 60 skateboarding artists, who have altered a plain wooden skateboard deck any way they want “as long as it fits through the door”.
There are a few other fundraising events that will coincide with the On Deck Art Show. Interested? Read on..
The shows opening will be on Saturday, March 3rd from 5 – 8pm. This event will feature a live band (Rosary Beard), refreshments, a raffle, silent auction, lots of fun, and of course all of the great skateboard decks that have been designed.
On March 10th at 2pm, you can check out a YOGA Benefit for the skatepark ($10), led by Susan Paschal and Julie Bell.
On March 29th, Charlie Samuels (who organized the “Save the Skatepark” Facebook page) will be airing trailers and teasers for his upcoming feature length documentary “VIRGIN BLACKTOP” about a 1970s skateboard team from Nyack, NY.
This is great to see after all of the controversy over the skate bowl a few months ago. With so many artists participating in the show and the publicity it has been getting lately, it really seems like the community is behind the kids here, and wants to support their activities.
Will you be attending On Deck or any of the fundraising events? How do you feel about the skatepark being revived to the hot spot it once was?
