Saratoga Arts is proud to announce that Tempered By Memory, Saratoga Springs’ 9/11 Memorial Sculpture made from World Trade Center Steel, will be transported to its permanent home and resting place in High Rock Park on Tuesday, July 24th.
The creation of Tempered by Memory was encouraged by the Saratoga Springs Naval Support Unit, who wanted to bring 9/11 artifacts from the Port Authority’s storage terminal to Saratoga Springs.
In early May, the Saratoga Springs Design Review Commission unanimously approved the installation and site plan to put the modern art piece in High Rock Park.
Tomorrow, July 24, 2012, the sculpture will be brought into town from its storage place in Gansevoort. The public is invited to stand along Excelsior and High Rock Ave to watch the final stretch of the 24 foot sculpture’s transport to the High Rock Park Site.
Tempered By Memory will arrive between 8 am and 8:30 am, and crane operators and iron workers will be on hand to begin unloading and lifting the sculpture into place. The New York State Police and the Saratoga Springs Fire Department have been invited to serve as escorts.
The sculpture will be dedicated by Saratoga Arts at a special remembrance ceremony in September. Saratoga Arts is also planning on donating Tempered By Memory to the city of Saratoga Springs at that same ceremony.
Saratoga Arts was able to pull this important project together through the contributions of many locals and businesses in the community. Through their hard work, we can continue to remember 9/11.
Are you proud of the Saratoga community for erecting this piece of art? Will you be at High Rock Park tomorrow to watch Tempered By Memory put in place?
