Decorate your Porch and revel in Saratoga’s 150th year of Horse Racing! Similar to the popular and successful Window Decorating Contest, this event extends the decorative festivity to homeowners in the Saratoga Area. The judges make their decisions at the end of July/early August, and the best-decorated win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
The Saratoga Racetrack sweeps you up into the heat of the moment, so that it’s hard to imagine yesterday, let alone 150 years ago! But don’t forget that this fabulous tradition extends back to the Civil War Era!
Titles will be awarded for the following categories:
-
- Most Elegant
-
- Most Track-Inspired
-
- Most Historically Accurate
-
- Wildcard
Aside from the title, each winner will get the opportunity to name a race in the 2013 Racing Season. The race name will be displayed in the Post Parade Program.
What’s more, you’ll present the trophy for your race, and the race will be broadcast to millions on NYRA TV! As a souvenir, you’ll get a photo of your race presentation in a crystal picture frame.
When’s it start? Well, the judges pick their favorites between noon on Wednesday, July 31st and Monday, August 5th at noon. This means Saratoga homes will be done up well for the upcoming Floral Fete, Whitney Stakes, and generally the Saratoga 150th anniversary weekend.
But wait, you don’t just have to put a cute horse on your front porch to compete! Only porches visible from the street, between Circular Street, Lake Ave, East Ave, and Lincoln Ave are eligible. If you want in, let them know by printing out and completing this entry form by Wednesday, July 24 at 5pm. Mail it or bring it in to the Address at the end of the form. Editor’s Note: Link to entry form removed as it was no longer valid
But what if you already know your porch will be the prettiest for all four categories?! When do we find out? Victors will be notified by Monday, August 5th, and Pictures of the Winners will be taken the following day on Tuesday, August 6th.
