This summer, we are fortunate to be hosting the New York City Ballet at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center from July 8th through July 12th. But next summer we are even luckier to host them for a full two weeks! Don’t miss either performance!
The New York City Ballet has returned to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center for 48 years. Each summer, the company showcases talented professional ballet dancers performing difficult yet beautiful choreography.
This year, the company will be at SPAC from July 8th through July 12th. The seven performances will pay tribute to all things British. It will feature works by British choreographers Christopher Wheeldon and Liam Scarlett, as well as George Balanchine’s “Union Jack.” Classical performances, such as those choreographed by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, will be presented along with more contemporary ballets, such as those created by Peter Martins, Mauro Bigonzetti, and Angelin Preljocaj. On July 12th, the event will end with a midafternoon Ballet Gala Lawn Party: A British Invasion and later that night, the Ballet Gala: A Tribute To Great Britain.
Although they are staying for a shortened period of time this summer, the promises of a two week event next summer is definitely something to look forward to! The NYC Ballet recognizes that their loyal audience in the Capital Region will be especially important as the company prepares for a longer duration of stay at SPAC in 2015. There are many expenses associated with their longer residency and the NYC Ballet will be relying on strong community support to be able to continue performing at one of their favorite venues!
