Franklin Community Center is starting off 2015 with a lofty goal: to raise $150,000 to expand its existing food pantry program. In recent years, the number of people who have been turning to the food pantry has been steadily increasing, so Franklin wants to adapt to be able to serve more residents.
One of the major benefits of the food pantry expansion, aside from further helping the community, is that Franklin will be able to become a member of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York – an organization that annually provides over 30 million pounds of food to its 1,000 member pantries. Joining the Regional Food Bank will provide Franklin County residents with more nutritious foods and will give Franklin access to new volunteers within the community, among other benefits. The planned expansion also includes installation of a commercial grade refrigerator and freezer, so the pantry can stock perishable goods.
