If you’ve ever been to Hattie’s, then this may not come as a surprise!
To most Saratogians, Hattie’s is the best fried chicken in the area (or everywhere!) Its greatness has been recognized on a national scale by being featured on both MSN’s and Food & Wine’s “Best Fried Chicken in the U.S.” lists.
Celebrating its 75th birthday this June, Hattie’s has managed to retain its distinct, historic charm. It has stayed true to its Southern roots by keeping its screen door, charming red-checkered tablecloths and most importantly of all, its authentic food.
From their jambalaya to their gumbo of the day, one bite of anything on the menu makes you feel like you just took a trip down to Louisiana!
What they are most recognized for, however, is their famous fried chicken. If you have yet to try it, make that the next to-do on your Saratoga bucket list. It’s prepared exactly the same way as it was in 1938. You know what they say, don’t fix it if it’s not broken!
address so we can come try it out.thank you
we go to hatties every year and tell every body about it. love it!!!! not a surprise here.
As a youngster growing up in Saratoga Springs, my first taste of Hattie’s fried chicken came after squeezing through a bend in the Union Ave wrought iron fence of the Racecourse. Sneaking in was just part of the fun. Hattie had tables set up just outside of the jockey house in the paddock. The fried chicken was (is) the crispiest and juiciest I’ve ever had. She also had a huge pot containing the absolute BEST homemade lemonade. For 10 cents, it would be ladled into a small cup ice cold and delicious. I’m 67 years old and the memory of Hattie’s Racetrack Stand and that food has stayed with me since I was 9 years of age. Simply the best!
