Editor’s Note 8/3/2015: We have updated the location of the Lake Local. It is located on the north end of Saratoga Lake where Bay Shore Tropic Hut was once located.
Have you ever been to The Local on Beekman in Saratoga’s art district? If you haven’t, I suggest you go immediately and if you have, it’s hard to imagine if it could get any better. Well, my friends, I bear pretty exciting news regarding Saratoga Springs’ beloved Local. Check it out:
A second location opened this past week on Saratoga Lake. The Lake Local is on the north end of the lake with a beautiful, sandy beach, adjacent marina and a board shop all on the property.
While the second location is geographically very close to the original on Beekman, once you step into the Lake Local and catch a glimpse of the beautiful backdrop of Saratoga Lake, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation. Jonathan Haynes of Phinney Design Group described it as, “It’s like having a lake side camp with none of the maintenance and wait staff to serve you as you soak up the rays.” Sounds amazing to us!
The Lake Local will be open year-round with outdoor activities including ice skating, fat bike races, snow shoeing and more. This special location is something that the owners wanted to bring to their existing Local customers.
Expect a similar menu to the original location with more of a focus on seafood to celebrate the waterfront location. While fish tacos are a popular special at The Local on Beekman, the Lake Local will also feature steamers, mussels, grilled swordfish, sesame encrusted ahi tuna, and of course, their world famous fish and chips.
We can’t wait to give the Lake Local a try! Will we be seeing you at the new location this summer?
Is there a physical address? A website? How do I find out more?!
It is in the former location of the Tropic Hut
sounds really great – just hope it doesn’t mean the Beekman Local will be closing 🙁
That isn’t the south end of the lake but the north end. Right before the to bridge that goes over Fish Creek, on route 9P. Knew a restaurant opened but didn’t know it was run by the same people, nice to hear.
Had dinner there Friday night. Our meals were very good, friendly staff and service was excellent.
Will be returning.
Yuppers–Would be nice to have an address.
Hi all! The Lake Local’s address is: 550 Union Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York 12866. Thank you!
Is there a phone number in order to make reservations? Can’t seem to find one anywhere!
Hi Andrea! The Lake Local’s phone number is (518) 886-1373. Thanks!
Excellent service, food, and location!
5 stars!
Disappointed. I love the Local….but there’s something lacking at their ‘lake house’.
Whether it be poor quality assurance in the kitchen, or the purchasing agent, the food was overshadowed by a strong lack in front of the house management. The staff was inexperienced and was highly ineffective. We ordered steamers and a caesar salad for a late lunch. I have never seen such tiny steamers in all my life, at $14 a dozen. We had to ask for, or go get, basic items for every step of the meal. Water, menus, silverware, server, etc.
To Local management: I could go on and on, but don’t want to bore the readers. Should you want to learn from our experience, all you need to do is contact me.
Been to lake local a few times and there’s one thing they need to work on….. the wait staff. One night it took over an hour to get dinner. Same thing for breakfast, it took way too long. Today we had a new waitress and she was unable to answer questions about items on the menu. She also did not tell us up front what wasn’t available (ran out of) until we asked (ice tea, ahi tuna, balsamic dressing for the salad). This was at 3:00pm. The staff doesn’t seem to know exactly what they need to do but there are a lot of them.
