Look out Caroline Street – there’s a new hot spot in town, and it could very well be your new favorite: Spa City Tap & Barrel.
I was fortunate enough to attend the soft opening and ribbon cutting for the bar, and I think I have found my new watering hole!
Located at 13 Caroline St. in downtown Saratoga Springs, the bar is right next to the Saratoga City Tavern, and was previously the spot of Thirteen, a nightclub that closed earlier this year.
Spa City Tap & Barrel offers a much different ambiance than the previous club’s vibe. You can now enjoy modern, ‘refined rugged’ décor featuring unique elements like a rustic sliding farm door, warm woods, large bar, and the crown jewel: a huge beer barrel equipped with 16 taps of craft beer! The Tap & Barrel also offers plenty of fun for all the ‘gamers’ out there: a pool table, old-school arcade games, and my personal favorite – DARTS!
In addition to their wide selection of 32 beers on tap, Spa City Tap & Barrel offers specialty cocktails, and a pub menu.
The owners, Jason and Rebecca Southwood, also own two other bars located on Caroline Street — The Bourbon Room and The Reserve.
Highlights: What I loved about the Spa City Tap & Barrel, besides the rotation of craft beers available, is the atmosphere. The best way I can describe the vibe was laid-back, yet cozy and energetic. While other bars can feel narrow and hard to move around, the pub has plenty of floor space to feel comfortable, even when there was a large crowd. Plenty of bar space also allows you to get your drinks quickly – without feeling like you are hovering over other patrons sitting at the bar.
Additionally, all of the bartenders were attentive and friendly. Oftentimes at new bar openings, the staff can be unprepared or stressed when there is an influx of people. Here, things went smoothly and the beers were flowing!
Another thing that I am excited for will be the happy hours. The pub plans on having a DAILY happy hour featuring a myriad of local Saratoga based products, spirits and beverages.
In addition, there will be regularly-scheduled live music on the weekends and plenty of specialty nights, like country and game nights on tap.
Ready to whet your whistle? Be sure to check out the Spa City Tap & Barrel the next time you are in downtown Saratoga Springs. Hey – maybe I will see you there!
