From downtown hotspots to the popular Race Course, there’s a lot to love about Saratoga Springs. While stressful days are inescapable, when you consider everything the area has to offer, life in Saratoga isn’t too bad. In a recent study by career resource website Zippia, out of 170 places in New York State that were examined, Saratoga Springs was ranked as one of the least stressed!
The study was based on a set of six criteria that are regarded as the main causes of stress for most people. Zippia selected 170 places in New York with a population greater than 5,000 to include in the study. The data was obtained from the U.S. Census’ 2010-2014 American Community Survey. Most of the study’s final stress measurements were career-focused:
- Population density
- The percentage of the population with a commute of 30 minutes or more
- Hours worked
- The amount of income spent on rent
- Unemployment rate
- The percentage of the population living without health insurance
Places with a higher number in each of the individual criteria ranked closer to the top. Zippia ranked each place from 1-170, with number one being the most stressed place in New York.
For example, the Village of Manorhaven on Long Island was ranked as the most stressed place in the state. With a population of 6,638, 67.3% of people have a high rent, 57.5% have a long commute, and 16.2% do not have health insurance.
Saratoga Springs ranked very low on the list at number 159, which in this case is actually great! For Spa City’s much larger population of 26,998, only 40.9% of people have a high rent, 29% have a long commute, and 6.3% do not have health insurance.
Compared to some nearby cities, such as 68th ranked Glens Falls and 65th ranked Albany, Saratoga Springs’ low ranking is a testament to the city as being one of the best places to live here in New York!
