In celebration of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s (SPAC) 50th Anniversary, acclaimed composer Michael Torke was commissioned by the venue, the Wait Family, and The Adirondack Trust Company to create an original orchestral piece. On Sunday, July 31, Torke will give a talk at Spa State Park’s Victoria Pool Complex about the inspiration behind his new composition, “Unconquered,” in preparation for its world premiere.

Michael Torke’s ties to Saratoga Springs began back in December of 1984. During this time, he took up residence at Yaddo, the city’s renowned artists’ community. Torke’s attachment to the region grew over the years, and he was a resident at Yaddo again in 2008. In the past, he has created works for the Albany Symphony Orchestra, “Four Seasons,” an oratorio commissioned by the Walt Disney Company, and “Strawberry Fields,” whose “Great Performances” broadcast was nominated for an Emmy Award.
