Every week only 3 finalists rise to the top of over 5,000 submissions to the New Yorker’s extremely popular cartoon caption contest.
This week, Saratoga Springs’ own Zack Vogel is one of those three finalists for his succinctly witty submission: “I’m not a big cat person”.
This week’s cartoon depicts a man brandishing an oversized sewing needle at an enormous and threatening cat (or an undersized man brandishing a normal sewing needle at an average, if still definitely menacing, cat – whichever interpretation tickles your funny bone).
Once you see the cartoon, it’s easy to understand why Vogel was chosen as a finalist – his sense of humor meshes well with the cartoon editor Bob Mankoff’s traditionally dry, ironic wit that aims to say as much as possible in the fewest possible words.
Support Zack by voting for his caption online. You do not need to be a subscriber to contribute, so no excuses! Voting ends at 11:59 pm EST Oct 9.
