Saratoga County has been designated the healthiest county in New York State for the second year in a row! The study looked at a number of factors like physical activity, air pollution, and the number of individuals with health care to determine its rankings. Saratoga scored particularly well in numerous categories.

The report from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps divided up health factors of counties into various categories like Length of Life and Quality of Life, and each category was then given its own ranking. Saratoga scored number 1 for Quality of Life, number 2 for Social & Economic Factors, and number 3 for Health Factors.
Within those categories, Saratoga scored particularly well for a number of subcategories such as the number of adult smokers, the number of teen births, and the ratio of population to primary care physicians.
Saratoga scored an 8.7 out of a possible 10 for the “Food environment index,” which indicates elements that contribute to a healthy food environment. The Saratoga Farmers Market and Healthy Living Market and Cafe certainly provide residents access to healthy foods!
Compared to neighboring counties as a whole, Albany ranked 27, Rensselaer 35, and Schenectady 44 – these are out of 62 counties in the state.
Perhaps the overall health of residents in Saratoga County speaks to why Saratoga Springs was named one of the best small cities in the entire country last year.
