A local couple recently continued its trend of making impactful donations to Skidmore College. At the end of 2016, Michael and Margaret Roohan contributed 189 acres in the Town of Greenfield to Skidmore, following similar donations of 200 acres and 120 acres they made in 2010 and 2014, respectively.
All three of the parcels given by the Roohans are undeveloped and located adjacent to Skidmore’s North Woods property behind the Van Lennep Riding Center.
Mike Roohan explained the reasoning behind the recent donation in a statement saying, “We feel strongly about supporting Skidmore College. Its people and programs add so much to the quality of life in Saratoga Springs, and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to give back to the College.”
This donation makes Skidmore stand among other colleges in the northeast, as very few own woodlands as large and as closely located to their campuses. With this easy access to woodlands, Skidmore students will be provided with research opportunities and outdoor classroom activities in disciplines such as environmental studies and anthropology.
