Did you miss out on the first giveaway day at Saratoga Race Course this year – the 2017 Saratoga baseball cap? No worries! While supplies last, fans at the Track this Friday, August 25, can visit the Community Outreach Booth, donate canned or non-perishable goods, and receive a free baseball cap for their generosity.
Supporting a Good Cause
Over the years, the New York Racing Association (NYRA) has hosted the Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Food and Essential Goods Drive at Saratoga Race Course to help support the local community.
This year’s food and essential goods drive will take place this Friday on Travers Eve, when thousands of racing fans will be in the Spa City. From 11:00am-5:00pm, the drive will be featured at the Community Outreach Booth on the Jockey Silks Room Porch and across from the Saratoga Walk of Fame.
Some of the suggested items fan are encouraged to donate include pasta, peanut butter, cereal, rice, soup, canned vegetables, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and more.
In return, Saratoga Race Course will give fans a free 2017 Saratoga baseball cap, while supplies last.
Celebrate the Travers Festival
As part of the week-long Travers Festival, there will be many more celebrations and special events going on in the area in celebration of the upcoming Travers Day on Saturday, August 26.
In addition to the food and essential goods drive and horse races on Friday, visitors will be able to witness the induction of three-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Ramon Dominguez into the Saratoga Walk of Fame during the Red Jacket Ceremony.
Then, on Travers Day, fans will get to see the following stakes races during the historic event:
- Travers presented by NYRA Bets (G1) $1,250,000 – 148th running of the Mid-Summer Derby for 3-year-olds
- Sword Dancer (G1) $1,000,000
- Personal Ensign (G1) $700,000
- Forego (G1) $600,000
- H. Allen Jerkins Memorial (G1) $500,000
- Ketel One Ballerina (G1) $500,000
- Woodford Reserve Ballston Spa (G2) $400,000
While paid attendance to Travers Day is capped at 50,000, as of August 23, grandstand and a limited number of clubhouse admission tickets are available. All reserved seats, dining, and hospitality are sold out.
