For more than 140 years, The Adelphi Hotel on Broadway has been a Saratoga staple for visitors and locals alike. After five seemingly-long years, The Adelphi is ready to emerge from its chrysalis and show the world the stunning results of its transformation. The old and the new come together throughout the 32-room boutique hotel with original pieces juxtaposed with modern touches. We received a sneak peek of what’s inside and let’s just say we cannot wait to grab cocktails at Morrisey’s after spending an afternoon working in the Drawing Room.
Welcome To The Adelphi Hotel
Enter through the hotel doors, with the original handles, and you’ll be greeted by the restored grand staircase, a truly spectacular callback to the hotel’s early days when all communication centered around its steps. To your left is plush seating, perfect for sipping a latte while you read the morning paper. A glittering backsplash will draw your eyes right in as you approach the front desk. Made from the hotel’s original plates, among other materials, it adds an elegant backdrop to your check-in experience.
There are multiple spaces throughout the first floor where the public is welcome to enjoy. Plentiful seating in a variety of arrangements make The Adelphi a great place to sit back and relax, meet with a client, or work on your laptop. The perfect seat awaits you in the lobby, the outdoor garden, or the Drawing Room.
The first floor will also have two new restaurants, The Blue Hen, an upscale breakfast and dinner spot, and Morrisey’s, a speakeasy-style bar and casual eatery. These two additions join Salt & Char which opened in 2016. All three restaurants aim to make the Adelphi a true culinary destination within the already impressive Saratoga restaurant scene.
Impeccable attention to detail throughout the hotel make even walking the halls an experience. Throughout the hotel’s four floors you’ll be greeted by original, 140-year old mirrors. Embellishments of bees and pineapples adorn the walls to reinforce themes of sustainability and ‘welcome’. You’ll hear music in Morrisey’s, but good luck finding the source. The team built speakers right into the ceiling so they do not disrupt the atmosphere.
Sustainability In Practice
The team at The Adelphi Hotel have embraced sustainable methods and products throughout the properties. A majority of the cleaning products used on site are free from harsh chemicals and have no fragrance. All three restaurants will be sourcing ingredients from local farms and composting organic scraps. Salt and Char has already composted over 50 tons of organic matter to date. Sensors in guest room floors were added to turn off the lights if no movement is detected. Even the bedding is eco-friendly. Made from a byproduct of eucalyptus, it provides natural temperature control as you sleep. Soaps and lotions in the guest bathrooms are all-organic and made in New York State by Red Flower.
The Veranda

If you’ve ever walked down Broadway, you’ve pictured yourself sitting on the second-floor veranda at The Adelphi. It will soon be open once again, but its exclusivity remains – only hotel guests can enjoy a portion of the veranda from the Library. Don’t want to mingle with other guests? Book either The Whitney Suite or The Travers Suite and you’ll get your own closed off portion of the veranda to enjoy. Doors partition the sections in between allowing for privacy. For a truly extravagant experience, guests who book both the Travers and the Whitney suites, or even the entire floor, will get the entire veranda to themselves.
The Library, situated between the Whitney & Travers Suites, is a great place to wind down the day with a bourbon while browsing the hotel’s original books. It opens out onto the veranda so all guests may enjoy people watching from above. Guests are welcome at the library anytime it has not been included in suite or floor reservations.
Hidden Romance
There is only one room that is possibly more opulent than the Whitney & Travers Suites, the Polaris Suite. It has a walk-in shower with five shower heads and a private balcony with a retractable awning, but that’s not even the best part. It is the only room in the hotel with its own private hot tub so you can soak away the night under the stars. The Polaris Suite is a great choice for anyone looking to spend an evening relaxing with someone special.
All-in-all, The Adelphi Hotel is a true revival of Saratoga’s ‘golden age’ hotels. The 35+ million dollar renovation has not only transformed the hotel, but ensures it will stand on Broadway for another 140 years.
