Tang Teaching Museum Hosts a Performance of African Drumming & Dance
On Thursday, April 12, the Tang Teaching Museum will present Musicking the Collage, a fun evening of African drumming, dance, song, and art performed by Skidmore College students. This free, hour-long performance will examine cross-cultural influences and postcolonial identity, and it will be directed by Charles Lwanga, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Skidmore College.
In addition, Malian artist Abdoulaye Konaté’s exhibition Métamorphose de papillon (2017) will be on display in the Tang Teaching Museum for the first time, and it will serve as a point of contemplation and inspiration.
Stewart’s Signature Series Returns to Skidmore College
After the success of last year’s Stewart’s Signature Series, Skidmore College has recently announced that the popular music and arts series will return in 2018!
Sponsored by a generous grant from Stewart’s Shops and the Dake family, this event series will feature a lineup of world-class music and arts performances at the Skidmore College campus this spring and summer. The schedule includes:
- Saturday, May 12: Indigo Girls with Michelle Malone (sold out)
- Friday, June 22: SITI Company presents: Chess Match, No. 5
- Tuesday, June 26: Terri Lyne Carrington Quartet
- Saturday, July 7: NYS Summer Writers Institute: “Can Art Be ‘Offensive’?”
Mark Your Calendar for “SPAC on Stage”
This August, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) will once again host their “SPAC on Stage” series on four consecutive Monday evenings: August 6, 13, 20, and 27. During this unique concert series, the SPAC amphitheater will be transformed into an intimate concert setting, with the audience seated onstage with the performing artists.
This year, the “SPAC on Stage” series will feature:
- Monday, August 6: Russian Renaissance
- Monday, August 13: Nu Deco Ensemble
- Monday, August 20: Black Violin
- Monday, August 27: H’SAO
