A new and exciting exhibition by artist Tim Davis is opening at The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery next month. Davis’s works are part of permanent collections at well known institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Guggenheim Museum, and now you can see some of his outstanding work right here in Saratoga Springs.
Details on the Exhibition & Tim Davis’s Work
When We Are Dancing (I Get Ideas) opens on Saturday, October 20th and will run until January 6th of 2019. The exhibition includes over 30 of Davis’s recent works in video, sound, installation, photography, and other mediums.
Davis’s work explores the intersection of “humor and longing, the ridiculous and the sublime, the abject and the beautiful,” according to a recent statement from the Tang. His pieces will offer an exclusive look at the creative process of an artist, musician, and writer.
Highlights include Curtain Call and Tuning Up, which are both videos that explore the periphery of performance; Uneasy Listening, which is an installation of three turntables on a loop that allow visitors to play, take, or leave easy listening records; and Light Comedic Grave Rubbing, which is a series of grave rubbings of strange or funny names of the deceased. The Light Comedic Grave Rubbing could be a fun and unique way to get into a Halloween mood!
An Opening Reception
The exhibition opens on Saturday, October 20th. Davis himself will be leading a gallery talk at 4pm, and a public reception will follow. Hear about the works straight from the artist himself, or make time to check out the exhibition in the upcoming months.
