A Surrender in Saratoga
Surrender Day commemorates the end of the Battles of Saratoga, marked by the surrender of British General John Burgoyne to American General Horatio Gates in 1777 and recognized today as one of the most decisive battles in history.
Starting at 10 AM on October 17, the celebration will feature immersive demonstrations and entertainment, including:
- Period music,
- Cannon salutes by the 2nd Continental Artillery, and
- A keynote speech by Benjamin Franklin impersonator Paul Stillman.
The speech will reflect Franklin’s role as an emissary to France following America’s victory.
State and local dignitaries will also be in attendance, as well as fifth graders from Schuylerville Central School who will be reading their essays on the historic Battles.
Please note that this outdoor event is weather dependent; be sure to check conditions before heading out on Wednesday.
