“SPAC on Stage,” the popular concert series, will return to Saratoga Performing Arts Center starting this June and transform the amphitheater into an intimate concert venue. However, the first concert on the schedule with Anoushka Shankar has been canceled due to medical reasons. The June 19 concert will instead feature two-time Grammy® nominee and Latin Grammy® Award winner María Concepción Balboa Buika and her all-female band.

Experience the Sounds of “SPAC on Stage”
During “SPAC on Stage,” the SPAC amphitheater has a unique seating arrangement that offers audience members a more intimate concert experience. The whole audience is actually placed on stage with the artists, looking out into the theater.
For 2019, the concert series will take place on the following dates: June 19 (BUIKA), July 23 (Tony Succar & Mixtura), August 26 (RED BARAAT), and September 9 (Banda Magda). The concerts will showcase a variety of performers and genres, from classical to contemporary and global music.
As mentioned above, the first concert on June 19 will now be María Concepción Balboa Buika, also known as BUIKA, and her all-female powerhouse group. BUIKA is recognized for her blend of musical influences, which include African highlife “Soukous / Makossa,” jazz, flamenco, pop, R&B, soul, and folk. NPR Music Radio has even named her “the voice of freedom.”
Tickets for “SPAC on Stage” cost $40 or $50, depending on the seat location, and they are available online, at SPAC’s box office, or by calling 518-584-9330. If you have tickets to the Anoushka Shankar performance, those will be transferred to BUIKA’s concert. Or, you may contact SPAC to receive a full refund or gift certificate.
