Caffe Lena is known to the Saratoga community as a music and performance hotspot that puts out sold-out shows and diverse programming on a daily basis. But now, the nonprofit venue increases its influence on the local music scene with significant educational offerings.
A New Music School for Kids
“Let’s put instruments in the hands of children before they get their first phone,” Caffe Lena board member Kevin Bright said in a statement.
The most recent addition to programming offered at Caffe Lena is the Caffe Lena School of Music, which starts on March 10th for kids ages 7 to 12. There is a focus on providing a musical outlet for at-risk kids; full scholarships are available (this includes instruments) to any family that qualifies for free or reduced school lunches.
The Caffe Lena Difference
While formal music lessons are typically one-on-one Caffe Lena’s School of Music will be in a group setting, as children learn how to play by ear and how to play with others. There will be group lessons on guitar, fiddle, and ukulele, in addition to jam sessions for the entire family.
Details on Classes
Session 1 of the School of Music is already fully enrolled. If you’re interested in getting your kids in on this prime opportunity you can contact Caffe Lena to join the waiting list, or keep an eye out for an announcement on Session 2, expected to take place this summer. Information will be announced in the near future on their Facebook page and website.
