Skidmore College Demonstrates Healthy Approach to Wellness Education
The Active Minds Healthy Campus Award, a distinguished recognition in the academic sector, was awarded to five colleges and universities this year and Skidmore was one of them.
“Skidmore College stands out because of its comprehensive program to address and tackle well-being in multiple forms for both students and employees,” Alison Malmon, Executive Director and Founder of Active Minds, said in a statement.
How the Colleges & Universities are Chosen for the Award
Active Minds seeks out campuses that integrate a variety of innovative practices towards health and wellness, such as solid efforts to break down healthy equity barriers. Mental health must be a priority as well as physical. Skidmore was selected for its many opportunities for student-led initiatives, a variety of partnerships with community organizations, and a strong focus on well-being in the college’s strategic plan.
One of the student-led initiatives that undoubtedly helped Skidmore secure this award is the Peer Health Education Program. Students apply to be Peer Health Educators who promote healthy choices and lifestyles on campus, and work to educate their peers on a variety of health-related topics.
