Labor Day weekend may be over, but there’s still a lot to look forward to in Saratoga Springs. You can stay at home and enjoy a virtual event, plan a trip to the newly reopened Saratoga Casino Hotel, or sign up for a local class and try something new. Below we’ve rounded up some of the latest announcements and top upcoming events in the area.
Celebrate the Greatest Grandparents With The Wesley Community
As we continue to practice social distancing to keep our loved ones safe, it’s important to show our family and grandparents how much we care about them. In celebration of grandparents (and great-grandparents), The Wesley Community has transformed their annual Grandparents Day into a virtual event.
On Sunday, September 13, The Wesley Community will present a ceremony-style video honoring grandparents who have been nominated by members of the Saratoga community. This video will air on The Wesley Community’s Facebook page. If you’d like to support Wesley and the care they provide for older adults, consider making a donation on their website today.
Experience the New SPAC @ Home Concert Series
Have you heard? Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) has announced a new SPAC @ Home Concert Series that will kick off on Saturday, September 12, with a performance by world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell, who was originally scheduled to perform with The Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC this summer.
The concert will feature an exclusive virtual performance that was recorded at the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College. Tickets are just $10, and pre-registration is required. The video will be available starting September 12 at 8:00pm and remain online for one week.
Welcome Back to the Saratoga Casino Hotel
After being closed for nearly six months, the Saratoga Casino Hotel finally reopened their doors to the public on Wednesday, September 9. The casino is now open daily from 10:00am-2:00am with a 25% occupancy limit, new social distancing and safety regulations, and enhanced air filtration and cleaning protocols. You can read about the changes here >>
Although the gaming floor is open, some amenities, such as cocktail service, self-service beverage stations, Mane Bar, Garden Buffet, and Vapor will stay closed until further notice. However, the hotel, Lucky Joe’s, Morton’s The Steakhouse, and the Jackpot Deli are all open. Harness racing is taking place, but no spectators are allowed.
Explore the Arts With the Tang Teaching Museum
The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College is one of Saratoga’s premier museums, and while the building remains closed to the public, the Tang is open to everyone online. For fall 2020, the Tang is preparing some new online initiatives for people to enjoy at home, including enhanced online exhibitions, artist talks, Tang at Home Studio, Tang Live, and more.
On September 17, two exhibitions will open online: Never Done: 100 Years of Women in Politics and Beyond and We’ve Only Just Begun: 100 Years of Skidmore Women in Politics. Created in conjunction with each other, these exhibitions highlight the role of women in politics. Then, on October 10, Energy in All Directions, an exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of artist and gallerist Hudson, will open online.
