When you are out and about enjoying the sites of Saratoga, you are probably not thinking too much about how your food choices impact your brain and body. However, what we eat can not only affect our health and mood in the long-term, but can also give us with more energy and vitality to enjoy our time at the track, daily events, and nights at SPAC.
The cool part is, you can even eat for your brain when dining out in some of the finest Sartaoga restaurants. You just need to know what to add to your plate to optimally fuel your mind. Let’s dive in more…
Food and Health
Nutrigenomics and epidemiological research show that dietary changes can enhance physical, cognitive, and brain health. However, conflicting information complicates optimizing cognitive function through diet.
In my previous video blog, we covered how food fuels the brain and how to boost cognition by avoiding harmful chemicals and toxins.
My latest post summarizes those points and expands on how nutrients affect brain function. I explore a list of top foods found in foundational categories for improving metabolic brain health. These nutrients have also been associated with managing stress, anxiety, depression, and various other mental health issues.
By focusing on how food impacts the brain’s biochemistry and biology, we can concentrate on supportive nutrition and bypass dietary debates. We can use this information to make selections while dining out, while we also still enjoy our favorite treats.
Topics covered in my recent vlog can help you do this. They include:
- A review on how nutrition supports brain health
- What to avoid for better cognitive power
- Which nutrients are the foundational building blocks that support brain function
- Foods in the top categories of nourishment for the brain: antioxidants, probiotics, fiber, lean protein, vitamins and minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids
- The link between mood and food and eating for your brain biochemistry
- A personalized vs. generalized dietary approach to mind-body wellness
Thankfully, many foods can be included in your diet for variety. Adding in those you enjoy from each category can cover your basis and simplify eating for brain health. In this way your adding to your fun in Saratoga and your health in the future!
