Is Food Medicine for the Brain?
We are living in a world where access to health information is abundant. Through AI, social media, the internet, and podcasts, people can easily find copious sources of education and a diversity of opinions on wellness topics.
This vast amount of available knowledge is highlighting to the masses the impressive evidence of how food affects health. The more recent science of nutrigenomics and years of epidemiological research support that dietary interventions can positively influence physical, cognitive, and brain health.
Yet, the conflicting opinions, contradictory research findings, and the impact of diet culture on healthcare makes it difficult to decipher how to best eat for optimal vitality and mood.
Is there a simple solution?
How Does Nutrition Affect the Brain and Who Do We Listen To?
In my latest video blog, I discuss why this period in medicine provides an opportunity to learn more about nutrition’s effect on the mind-body. I also point out the potential risks of becoming obsessively focused and overwhelmed with excessive information.
Notably, I share how nutrition is essential for brain health and what things we may be eating that can hinder cognitive gains. I intentionally steer clear of dietary conflicts (carnivore vs. vegan, etc.) and restrictive practices. Rather, my focus is on how to nourish and nurture the brain based on biology and biochemistry.
Topics in the video include:
- How the modern-day focus on lifestyle medicine is gaining momentum and why this is important
- The factors that make it so hard to find accurate health information
- How the brain is impacted by nutrition
- What foods to avoid that can harm our brain
- A note on food insecurity
The good news is that we can take some simple steps to avoid harmful substances on our plate while adding in (vs. taking away) foods that form the foundational building blocks for our brain to function optimally.

Sending you many blessings. ❤
