
It isn’t just the tourists of Saratoga, NY that stop in their tracks to take in the beautiful fall tapestry that decorates the Broadway Historical district. Even native Saratogians can’t help but gaze in awe at nature’s scenery as they partake in window shopping Downtown or while they are leaf peeping in Saratoga State Park, Congress Park, or Skidmore’s North Woods.
Getting lost in the magnificence of Mother Earth as we hike through our favorite Upstate NY hotspot is one way to ease the heightened tension that most of us have been experiencing during these turbulent times. Many Americans are also seeking the stillness that we are graced to have in Saratoga.
Yet, living in Saratoga doesn’t mean that we are immune from the “real world” pressures and the everyday stressors of our lives. This is because the whole world is being affected by the attention-grabbing headlines of negative news, controversies over current events, social media comparisons, broadcasts of global unrest, political divisions, financial and health concerns, and technological and AI (Artificial Intelligence) advancements.
If not appropriately addressed, these chronic, excessive stressors can have negative emotional, mental, and physical health ramifications. Unfortunately, it seems many people are lacking the support they need to cope successfully with our chaotic world.
In fact, the most recent data provides evidence that America is facing a mental health crisis, especially our youth. Furthermore, John Hopkins just released an updated survey that reported that 1 in 10 Americans have been impacted by it.
It has become evident that we need a better approach to mental health care, one that integrates supportive mind-body practices. This is not to replace conventional psychiatric care, but to offer a whole-person approach that is missing in mainstream medicine.
