Lately, the residents and tourists of Saratoga, NY have been experiencing more robust allergic reactions, digestive problems, skin irritations, mood changes, and sleep disturbances. These symptoms have been attributed to the increase in environmental and emotional stressors in our world leading to higher levels of histamine in the blood and increased inflammation and immune activity in the body. Many integrative doctors in Saratoga are reporting that these rising concerns are requiring additional supportive, holistic interventions than were needed in the past.
For these reasons, I started a series that explored more about the causes and issues related to excess histamine in the body and how it can lead to histamine intolerance and contribute to Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). I also explained the first step to treating these conditions and highlighted how essential oils can aid the healing process and restore histamine balance.
I believe that essential oils can aid the people of this historical hotspot who are craving symptom relief of various woes and/or to stifle sneezing their way through Saratoga’s fall events. This is due to the following properties of these aromatic allies:
- Anti-inflammatory
- Hormone, neurotransmitter, and vagal tone modulators
- Mood supportive
- Anti-microbial
- Digestive aids that enhance assimilation, elimination, gastrointestinal barrier function, and support a healthy microbiome
- Antioxidants (cellular protectors)
- Stress relieving
- Supportive of detoxification of harmful compounds
If you recall, I also discussed specific oils that directly impact histamine release in pre-clinical research. These included geranium, rosemary, peppermint, and lavender oils. I also mentioned that an aromatherapy blend of anti-inflammatory and calming essential oils relieved allergic rhinitis in a human trial.
Now, I have begun my two-part conclusion of this series. It provides you with even more options of essential oils to choose from that can alleviate excess histamine and enhance your bodily defenses as you move through the activities of Saratoga NY.
In the first part, topics include:
- a quick review of the issues that occur with excess histamine release
- the properties of essential oils that help to mitigate high levels of histamine and balance our overall mind-body wellness
- a mega-list of sixteen oils, from A to L, that are antihistaminic and anti-inflammatory
- the four different types of allergic responses that these various oils are most effective for
I hope that with this knowledge, you can find your perfect essential oil match to keep you up-to-par to partake in all the upcoming fun fall events around Saratoga, NY. In the long-term, these aromatic options can also help you to stay well for all the upcoming Saratoga seasonal activities.
