In my opinion, there’s nearly nothing better than cheese. I’m not a knowledgeable connoisseur, but as a fervent fan I can appreciate the upcoming Washington County Cheesemakers Tour.
Wherever it ranks on your food list, if you like cheese just a little bit, then this tour is something for you.
The 5th Annual Washington County Cheese Tour will take place throughout the county over a weekend in September, from Saturday the 10th to Sunday the 11th.
Five creative farmstead cheese makers will open their farms to the public. Visitors can wander on a self-guided tour, sample specially selected cheese, and have a first-hand experience of cheese-making traditions that go back as far as the nineteenth century.
Participating farms include Argyle Cheese Farmer, Sweet Spring Farm, and Longview Farm in Argyle, 3-Corner Field Farm in Shushan, and Consider Bardwell Farm in West Pawlet, VT.
The free style of the cheese tour makes it a perfect, flexible weekend getaway. Each farm is located within a ten-mile radius, so you can visit all five or take your leisure at any number in between.
Stay in one of the region’s many quaint country inns and cozy bed & breakfasts as you travel to make it an extra special visit. And bring back some gifts – freshly made and maturely aged cheeses are available for purchase at each farm.
