As a “thirty-something” living in the Saratoga area, the nightlife on Caroline Street can be a little intimidating.
Everywhere you look, there are college students and younger locals bouncing from bar to bar, looking for the hottest club or bar.
Sometimes, when I visit these same clubs, I find myself wondering, “What IS this music? Gosh, am I really getting that old?”
For those of you who have maybe felt the same, I bring you hope this season.
The Metro is coming back. Better than ever.
You may remember The Metro, prior to 2002, situated at 17 Maple Ave. These days, the address is home to Mare, the nightclub and lounge.
In December 2010, Ron Farber opened 28 Tables restaurant. Hosting live entertainment at the baby grand piano and a 2,400-bottle wine alcove, 28 Tables is located on the second floor of 17 Maple. Farber, along with his business partner, Patrick Maney, have bought out the entire building from its current owners and have re-opened the nightclub as The Metro. Farber has stated that he has already established patrons at an “older demographic” at 28 Tables and he plans on continuing that effort at The Metro.
He hopes to bring back musicians and bands that made The Metro popular ten years ago, appealing to the “30-somethings” of today.Further, Farber has the lounge area as Under the Tables, as The Metro occupies the dance club and courtyard.
Plans for a May 7th Grand Opening party for the club and lounge are underway, which also happens to be Kentucky Derby weekend.
28 Tables, Under the Tables, and The Metro… sounds like a Triple Crown win to me.
Now, someone hand me my Zima and crank up that Salt n Pepa. I’m going to The Metro this weekend.
More information can be found on Mare’s Facebook page: “Mare Saratoga”.
Reservations can be made at 28 Tables by calling 226-0126. Go to www.28tables.com for more information.
The metro is not back nor will it ever be back……………..sorry
