It seems like Saratoga Springs High School is churning out champions – last week we found out that the Jazz Band was going to compete in a music festival in Disney, and now the Academic Team is going to a national tournament this June!
The Academic Team competes in a kind of fast-paced trivia game, with four-person teams using buzzers to answer questions in various categories such as history, pop culture, and our favorite subject: math.
This year, Saratoga Springs High School Academic team won the regional tournament, the Post Star Academic Bowl, which pits 23 teams from eight different area school districts in a battle of the brains.
The combined cerebral power of team captain Theo Sullivan and his classmates Sam Hyatt, Felix Glozman, George Kaplan, Sophie Breitbart, Allison Carswell, DEvan Stegman, Jonah Williams, and J.D. Towers swept the competition away.
This has earned the team a third consecutive chance to compete in a national event. This year, the tournament will be held in Chicago, where the local champs will head in June.
Currently, the Academic Team is seeking donations to help them represent Saratoga on the national level.
If you wish to make a contribution – any amount is helpful – you can mail a check to the team coach Alicia Silver at the Saratoga Springs High School address on 1 Blue Streak Boulevard. Donations should be made out to ‘Academic Team’.
For more information, contact the high school at 518-587-6690.
Congratulations Saratoga Springs Academic Team, and good luck!
